DESCRIPTION:   Reporting to the Associate Director, Facilities Management – Trades, plans, coordinates leads the staff and activities of the Energy Center (Central Utility Plant); maintains all Energy Center equipment and related distribution (power, cooling and heating) systems.

  • Programs, organizes, and facilitates all plant repairs, operations and upgrades.  Analyze work request; assists with the coordination of workloads and schedules to accomplish requested tasks in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
  • Assists the Associate Director, develops and implements Energy Center policies and procedures to maximize the safety, efficiency and quality of utility services, including electrical generation, hot water, chilled water, air conditioning and heating. 
  • Provides technical assistance with schedules and specifications to expedite projects. Maintain up to date blueprints and drawings of all of the University mechanical equipment.  Assists the Associate Director of Trades and the Environmental Health and Safety Manager by maintaining all Southern California Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) required reports, as well as, all system operational reports.
  • Implements shift schedules for the Energy Center staff, in accordance with University policy; develops and maintains a training program to educate staff in all aspects of plant operations and mechanical system maintenance, accurately maintains training records.
  • Processes time records, reviews operational logs, and submits work reports.
  • Adheres to all safety and housekeeping policies and procedures. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related duties as needed. May be assigned other duties outside Energy Center depending on the Center’s status and the Facilities’ trade work load.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
  Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by two (2) to three (3) year of additional course work or training in electrical, mechanical and technical fields with minimum of three (3) to five (5) years experience in a similar position, or an equivalent combo. Experience should include lead/supervisory experience, experience in chiller plant and chilled water distribution systems and at least one (1) year experience in hot water boilers and hot water distribution systems.  Experience with energy management/conservation is preferred, emergency management programs, and training in safety/environment highly desired.  The successful candidate will possess independent judgment; collaborative leadership; excellent listening shills; experience in overseeing a reciprocating engine cogeneration plant is highly desirable.  Candidate must possess excellent organizational, skills and have the ability to work independently with strong problem-solving ability.  Successful candidate’s knowledge of Energy Management Systems (EMS) and Central Emissions Monitoring Systems (CMS) is highly preferred.  After offer of employment selected candidate will possess a valid driver's license and demonstrate a good driving record with a current DMV printout; a physical examination must be successfully completed demonstrating the physical agility to perform the required duties in a safe and productive manner.  In compliance with The Americans with Disabilities Act if selected for the interview process and accommodations are needed please call 909-748-8040.
